Researchers at the University of Missouri have found that two devices commonly used for video gaming and security systems are effective in detecting the early onset of illness and fall risk in seniors.The Mizzou researchers have long been using motion-sensing technology to monitor changes in the health of residents at TigerPlace, an independent living community in Columbia. The American Medical Association has named the finalists of the 2011 AMA App Challenge. AMA members can vote for their favorite app idea for the month of September. Earlier this year, physicians, residents and medical students nationwide were invited to submit their app ideas for a chance to have the AMA develop it. FRANKLIN, TN - It's been a busy summer on the transcription and speech recognition front. In one week this past month, two separate and significant mergers were announced. On Monday, July 11, MedQuist announced its acquisition of Pittsburgh-based M*Modal for $130 million. By that Thursday, the news was out that Burlington, Mass.-base Nuance's newest strategic buy was Atlanta-based Webmedx, which was acquired for an undisclosed sum.
