A panel of mHealth experts from across the country will convene for a breakfast discussion at the 5th Annual mHealth Summit this December just outside of Washington D.C.

"The World is My Waiting Room," featuring executives from four of the nation's top healthcare networks, will take place on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md. The conference runs Dec. 8-11.

The session, organized by Healthcare IT News in partnership with mHealthNews.com, will feature:

  • Andrew Watson, MD, medical director of the Center for Connected Medicine at UPMC in Pittsburgh, who will moderate the discussion;
  • Jeffrey Benabio, MD, a dermatologist and physician director of healthcare transformation at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego;
  • Wesley Valdes, MD, medical director of telehealth services for Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City; and
  • Don Kosiak Jr., MD, executive medical director for Avera eCARE in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The discussion is expected to move beyond the hypothetical concepts and pilot projects that have dominated the mHealth landscape in years past and zero in on programs that are now deployed in practices and hospitals across the country. The panelists will discuss best practices that they have seen and used, determine why they're succeeding and offer tips on how to move forward in today's ever-changing healthcare system.

The session follows up on last year's successful breakfast panel discussion, "mPowering the Physician in the Era of Patient-Directed Healthcare," which also featured Watson. And it's the second time that Watson, Benabio, Valdes and Kosiak will be joining forces on stage – they took part in a successful breakfast panel at the American Telemedicine Association's 2013 annual conference this past May in Austin, Texas.
